Herbal supplements such as isoflavones and phytoestrogens have not been found to be more efficacious than placebo in the treatment of vasomotor symptoms.

Here are some common isoflavones and phytoestrogen that have had well designed studies carried out on its effect on menopausal symptoms:

Black Cohosh

does not help to improve menopausal symptoms

safety concern : potentially has effect on breast cancer cells and damaging to the liver if taken in high dose

Red Clover

if taken with probiotics may reduce vasomotor symptoms

Soy

can help to reduce vasomotor symptoms - should be avoided in women with ER positive breast cancer

Chinese Herbal Therapy

not proven to be effective in treatint menopausal symptoms

Evening Primrose Oil (EPO)

EPO is believed to treat hot flushes. However, current evidence does not support this claim.
