Official Launch of Menopause Facts Website

www.menopausefacts.org the menopause website catered for Malaysian women, was launched on 26th October 2017 in conjunction with October being the menopause month and October 18th being World Menopause Day.

Menopause and postmenopausal health has never been as emphasized as it has been in the recent past. As the life expectancy of both men and women are increasing, it is now known that half of our women would spend a good third of their lives in the menopause. Women have been fearful to talk about menopause as it has always been associated with growing old. This whole focus has now changed to “healthy aging” in order to allow women (and men) be productive both mentally and physically as they get on in years.

Under the umbrella of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia (OGSM), this web site was seen as a sorely needed website for many women who are about to undergo the “change” in their lives. Launched at L’Motichan, an event venue in Bangsar, Selangor, the ambience of the venue was in accordance with what women should feel in their menopause – peace and tranquillity and positive vibes for their next phase in life.

Council members of the OGSM, Dr. Thaneemalai Jeganathan (President), Dr. Eeson Sinthamoney (President Elect), Dr. Sharmina Kamal (Secretary) and Brig Gen Dato’ Dr. Thavachelvi S Thangarajah (Treasurer), council members of the Malaysian Menopause Society (MMS), Dr. Ho Choon Moy (President) and Prof Emeritus Dato Dr. Nik Mohd Nasri, Dr. Raman Subramaniam, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and various members of the press were in attendance.

The launch was successfully carried out by Dr. Thaneemalai and Dr. Premitha Damodaran, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who was instrumental in the making of this website.

The highlight of the event was the discussion amongst 3 chosen women who were willing to discuss how they went through menopause with 2 moderators i.e. Dr. Ho Choon Moy and Dr. Premitha Damodaran. The three participating women were Ms Puspawathy Munisamy, Mdm Tan Siew Hong and Puan Junaini Mohd Said. They were outright and open with their comments sparkled with a little humor.

The launch was otherwise a success with many members of the media highlighting the need of information about menopause and its long term implications to be disseminated to the public.
